The Law of Karma

In Buddhist teaching, the law of karma, says only this: `for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.'

I feel if we make up for past errors with good deeds and kindness to others, we can cancel out the bad karma.

Fully agree with Kismet! if you always wish love and good to others, you cannot go wrong...If someone tricks me or express negative feelings towards me, I immediately send him my love...Intention is the most important thing, that is where power of karma lies...so answer to Superb`s question- if you do bad and mean good, it is never bad...bad power lies only in the bad intention...xxx

For evolution of the soul (and this is why we all here)-painful and difficult experiences very valuable as much as very positive ones.We choose them before entering this physical incarnation. Karma is not a "reward or punishment",but instead sees in everything the working out of a Great Cosmic Plan whereby everything rises from lower to high and higher. To it Karma is one phase of great LAW operating in all planes and forms of life and Universe. All works for good!

Some of my clients tell me that they think their bad luck and disasters in this life are due to bad karma collected during past lives. I'm not sure that's true. However, I do know that many people believe that actions we take in our present life have to feel right to us in order to attract good karma. Unfortunately, feeling "right" can mean different things to different individuals. We see how totally horrific "right" can be when it's practiced by a fanatic terrorist. We also see people we consider totally wonderful suffering tragically from illnesses and injuries. We wonder why all that good they do has been balanced out by them having such misery. The best I can come up with to attract good karma is this quote taken from the oath of healers and physicians: "First, do no harm." You can't go wrong with that. If you try not to harm any living being, at least you have a chance of having a clear conscience. However, awful things happen for no apparent reason. We just have to handle them as best we can, hoping that Karma really exists and that some time in our lives, it will balance out.
